Pambaram game
Pambaram game: For centuries, people in Tamil Nadu have been playing the outdoor game of Pambaram. In English, it is known as spinning Top or Top. It is a popular childhood game that is widely played.
Pambaram is a toy made of wood with a broad body at the top that tapers towards the bottom. An iron nail is attached to the bottom of the Pambaram, and it comes with a rope to play with
How to play
As mentioned, the rope comes along with the pambaram and needs to be tied from the bottom of the nail attached to the pambaram to the half of the pambaram. You should hold the rope tightly and release it at the end tied to the pambaram, pointing the pambaram to the ground. This action will release the pambaram to the ground and the pambaram will start spinning. You should still hold the other end of the rope.
You can then use the same rope to lift the pambaram from the ground and transfer it to another location, such as your palm. Practice is key to mastering the spinning technique, so don’t worry if you’re unable to spin well at first. With practice, you will be able to achieve it.
Kids can play these games alone as an engaging activity or with a group of children. In a group setting, players toss a Pambaram and the loser has to place their Pambaram in a circle on the ground. The tossing is typically done with a coin, but in this game, it is done with the Pambaram itself. Each player must spin their Pambaram simultaneously, and the player whose Pambaram fails to spin, cannot be retrieved with a rope, or stops spinning first, will lose the toss.
The player who loses the toss must place their Pambaram in the circle drawn on the ground, while all other players must try to hit the Pambaram with theirs by spinning it. The player who successfully breaks the Pambaram or brings it out of the circle will be declared the winner.
